Meeting Gary

Before the 2009 Disney Moms panelists left for Disney Moms Panel training last month, we were anxious and excited about our agenda. We knew that it would involve some video/photo shoots and some training, but we weren't sure what we would have the opportunity to experience, where we would eat, and how we'd spend the majority of our days.

When we received the agenda, it definitely didn't disappoint, and it left open a few "surprises". One was our guest speaker for the second night, when we ate at the Hollywood Brown Derby at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Guessing who our guest speaker was a popular conversation topic, with ideas ranging from possible -Meg Crofton (President of Walt Disney World park) and Mickey Mouse to outrageous - Miley Cyrus and Regis Philbin (the Disney Christmas Parade filming happened that day). When we arrived at the Brown Derby, and realized we were not in a private room, we started thinking realistically again, with the popular opinion being a Disney imagineer.

When Gary, our guest speaker showed up, we weren't all entirely sure who he was. At first, he sat at the end of the table with the Disney cast members and 2008 panelists. Then he got up and moved towards the end of the table where I was sitting. Coincidentally, through no fault of our own, my end of the table may have happened to have three alcoholic beverages in front of us. Again, no fault of our own!

Someone at the other end of the table mentioned it was Gary's birthday. A birthday dessert was brought over, and our whole table sang Happy Birthday. Unfortunately, it wasn't until the point of the song where we should have said "Happy Birthday Dear Gary", that we realized that none of us actually knew his name. Each of us individually just said mmm..mmmm, hoping others would fill in the name. That didn't happen. After Gary introduced himself, again, someone at the other end of the table called him Jerry.

So, truth be told, I still don't know what Gary's "official" title is. Something to do with the American Idol Attraction, celebrities at Disney, characters?? I'm not sure. But I do know that having him as our special guest was better than any of our guesses. He entertained us with story upon story, and gave us a tour of the American Idol attraction. And when he showed up for our photo shoot two days later escorting Mickey, we were happy to see him.

The next time you see me chatting with Gary B on Facebook, you'll know who he is!

Meeting Gary was certainly one of the highlights of our trip. I was so thankful when he showed up at our photo shoot as he was able to calm our nerves instantly.

Isn't there a show chant about Gary?

Gary! Gary! Gary!

(Oh wait, that might be Jerry!....)

Having the opportunity to meet Gary was absolutely the biggest sprinkling of Pixie Dust we got to experience the whole time we were there! He added to the magic and the memories, and I'm so glad we got to meet him!
