Why All the Exercise, or How Jodi Tries to Save $10k, Eight Weeks Recovery, and a Large Scar

The last time I saw my stomach in it's original condition was probably shortly after I conceived my second child, my son. After the birth of my first child, my daughter, my stomach surprising went right back to being as flat as it had been prior to getting pregnant. But right after I got pregnant with my son, I started getting bigger quickly, probably because I'd already had a child.

I gave birth at 39 weeks via c-section, on my second day at the hospital, I noticed a long bump coming out of my stomach. I asked a doctor and she told me it was an intestine sticking out. Freaked out, I asked if it would ever go back to normal and I was told that it might, but it might not.

Fast forward to 2 1/2 years later. My stomach isn't exactly something I'm proud of. My OB told me it was not likely to get any better, even with diet and exercise. So, I went to a plastic surgeon who told me that not only do I have a hernia, I also need a tummy tuck to sew my stomach muscles together. The surgery is optional, requires about an eight week recovery (similar to a c-section), and costs almost $10,000.

So, I'm forgoing the surgery, and trying for the next three months to really work my abs. Can I do it? Stay tuned! Any tips for me? I'd love to hear them!

Yikes! Can some or all of the surgery by covered by insurance? It sounds like there are legitimate medical issues here.

I have lost a few pounds this year, but am the last person you'd want to ask for advice on a achieving a flat stomach.

Good luck!

Kim, the hernia is covered, but the sewing the muscles/tummy tuck is not. Very frustrating.
