Four years ago, after seven weeks of bed rest, my beautiful baby girl was born. We didn't know her gender during my pregnancy - despite more than 10 ultrasounds, she always kept that a secret from us. We also didn't know if she was healthy - while my ultrasound certainly did not show any problems, besides the very low amniotic fluid which caused the bed rest, I was still nervous about the cause of the low fluid.
She was born 4 weeks early - the point at which the doctors determined she was safer out than in. As I sat on the operating table (she was also breech, meaning I needed a scheduled c-section), I was so nervous. Would she be healthy? Too premature?
The surgery was quick, and once she was out I was assured she was healthy and perfect. A girl! Nothing could prepare me for the rush of emotions I felt at that moment. Pride. Relief. Happiness.
Today, it's 4 years later, and time and everyday life has dulled the memory of those scary seven weeks of bed rest. Once a year, on her birthday, I truly remember. And, I'm so grateful.
Happy Birthday Beautiful Girl!
